Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never known about it may confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. It is often cited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer, but due to a rapid increase in her height, she outgrew the dance partners she had. She admitted in an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. Once I surpassed my male counterparts and stopped dancing, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in Brugel's situation, it was a nudge from an instructor in drama at high school that led her in the right direction. It was the teacher who recommended she take on a part in the school's annual production. She tried out and eventually got the leading role of Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program and graduated at the age of 20 with a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on the big and small screens, attracting the greatest media attention after she was offered the character as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian participant.
