Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is a British-American musician and sitarist. She was the first and first female to win a British House of Commons Shield she's received Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live in concert and act as a host at the award ceremony. Anoushka Sitar Shankar is an Indian young sitar singer. She is a student as well as daughter to Ravi Shankar. Born in London in 1982, and began her life by hopping back and forth from London and New Delhi. At the age of 13 when her first performance was in New Delhi took place. Later she moved into Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. The career of Anouskha as a recorder and performer is impressive, despite her young age. Anoushka Shankar is currently a rising celebrity and her popularity is expected to continue growing. Anoushka was raised in England and spent a lot of her growing up between London and Delhi. Then she moved to California and enrolled in the high school there. She began learning music at the age nine and played the sitar in celebration of the 75th anniversary the birth of her father in Delhi just four years after. The father of Anoushka travelled the world with her and she was able to gain many new experiences. As she was in her teens, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD music festival. In the end, The House of Commons Shield was presented in her honor by the British Parliament in recognition of being the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and youngest recipient of this award.
